Indian Gooseberry, also popularly known as Amla in India has loads of health benefits for your skin, hair and health. The scientific name Amla is Polyanthus Emblica and is rich in nutrition. My childhood memories consists of eating fresh gooseberries with black salt. Since we had a huge tree in our house premises so mom used to prepare Amla Aachaar, and Dried Amla which could be consumed during off season and it had its own benefits.
Amla is rich source of Vitamin C and is extremely popular as Amla Juice.
There are different varieties of Gooseberries grown in different parts of the world, however we are largely talking about the Indian Gooseberry in this post. Ayurveda considers Amla an excellent secret for Hair, Skin and Health.

Amla derived from Sanskrit word, 'amalaki' is a fabulous fruit which can be preserved in varied forms - either make Pickle or Aachar, Amla Powder, Amla Oil, Amla Juice or Dried Candy & Dried Salted Amla. Though it is preferred to have raw Amla however, if it is not easily available, you can pick the best option for yourself from above listed forms.

1. 'Hair Care with Amla'.
With growing pollution most of us encounter hairfall and dandruff, besides the high chemical usage causes more harm then benefit Amla or Indian Gooseberry is one such fruit which had been used in ancient Ayurveda as the best Hair Care Regime.
a. Amla For Hair Growth:

Amla Aloe Vera Mask
1 tablespoon of Amla Juice or Powder
1 tablespoon of Aloe Vera Gel
1 Egg (Optional, Vegan Lovers, avoid this)
Mix all the ingredients together and apply the mixture from roots to tips and leave for about 30-35 minutes. Thereafter wash your hair with normal water. With regular use you would see the hair growth. This mask also adds shine and helps reduce itchy scalp and prevents dandruff.
Amla & Yogurt Hair Mask -
2 teaspoons of Amla Powder
Warm Water to form paste
2 teaspoons of Yogurt
Mix all the ingredients well to form a smooth paste and apply on hair. Let it stay for 30 minutes and wash off with warm water.

Amla, Reetha and Shikakai Shampoo:
200 gms Dried Amla'
200 gms Reetha (Soapnuts)
200 gms of Shikakai
3 Liters of Water
Grind all the three ingredients (please note Reetha does have large seeds so before you add them to blender separate seeds). Now boil water in a deep utensil and mix all the ingredients and let it boil and once it becomes lathery you know its ready. Remove from heat and strain and preserve it in a bottle.
b. Treat Grey Hair:
So, here’s how you can make an Amla Oil for Hair Growth and Grey Hair.
250 gms Amla
250 gms of Coconut Oil
Boil Amla and de-seed them and later then dry those pieces. Now in a pan heat Coconut Oil and add the dried Amla pieces in them. Heat them for about 30 minutes on a low flame. Allow the concoction to cool down and now strain it and you can store the oil away from sunlight.

2. 'Skin Care with Amla'
a. Treat Acne & Pimples:
I will be honest, I have never applied Amla Juice on skin, reason, while preparing Amla Juice, I stained my hands and that did scare me. So I would suggest what I have tried.
Drinking Amla Juice helps puriefy the blood and that treats Acne and Pimples.
b. Slows Down Aging:
Amla being a rich source of Vitamin C, therefore consuming 2 Amla' or consuming Amla Murabba empty stomach overtime would slow down ageing process and further it is beneficial for Hair Growth.3. 'Health with Amla'a. Boosts Immunity: Drinking Amla Juice early morning helps keep digestive system on track throughout the day and accelerates your metabolism and boosts immunity which helps fight cold and flu.b. Weight Loss:Further drinking Amla Juice on an empty stomach helps with weight loss. Not more than 10 --20 ml.
Amla does have numerous benefits however, overdose of Amla Consumption may cause Acidity, Diarrhoea and impact the Blood Pressure Levels.c. Amla Murabbas are a great way to bring relief from Menstrual Cramps. I have consuming Amla Murabba empty stomach every morning, I know for some it is excessively sweet, the trick here is to wash the Amla Murabba so that sugar coat is washed off. And that is the only sugar I consume other than 1 cup of tea with 1/2 teaspoon of Organic Brown Sugar. This has helped to control my weight as processed sugar only adds to your weight.
d. Detox Amla Water:
Amla is a natural detox agent. Soak 2 Sliced Amla' with a pinch of black salt in water. Keep it overnight and next morning you can drink the water or you can use the water to sip throughout the day whenever you feel low in energy.

How To Make Fresh Amla Juice -
1 Glass of Water
Cut Amla's into small pieces and add a glass of water and put them in a blender and once blended into a smooth paste you need to strain and get the fresh Amla Juice. Refrigerate and can be stored for up to 14 days.
How To Make Amla Powder -
250 gms of Amla'
Cut the Amla' and dry them in sunlight for a few hours. Grind them into a fine powder and store it in a jar. Mix it with other natural ingredients like Yogurt, Reetha, Shikakai to create
